Borrow from Other Libraries

Interlibrary Loan Services (ILL)

If Woodstock Public Library does not have an item you are looking for, we will try to borrow it from another library through interlibrary loan (ILL). We will not request items that we already have in our collection, so please check our catalogue first.

The current ILL guidelines are as follows:

  • WPL patrons may only have a maximum of five ILL requests active at a time.
  • WPL patrons who do not pick up their requested ILL items in a timely manner may lose ILL privileges.
  • Certain collection types will not be considered for ILL requests. We will not request:
    • Mass market paperbacks
    • Children easy readers and board books
    • Books on CD
    • Video games
    • Items from universities and colleges or those that charge shipping fees
    • Items that have been published less than one year previously
  • If the Library’s collection has a title in an alternative format (e.g. eBook, Large Print), the Library may refuse to request the item in the requested format. WPL will remain sensitive to issues of accessibility, and will consider each request with care.

While some patrons have indicated that they would be willing to pay for ILL items, the Public Libraries Act prohibits libraries from charging the public for library services.

Making a Request

To make a request, you will need to have a valid Woodstock Public Library card.

You can submit your request online using the ILL website. This will allow you to see the book’s availability from our partner libraries.

  • Choose to do a simple search from the homepage. When you see the item that you wish to request, click on the title. From here, you can Display Holdings or Request the item.
  • If this is your first time accessing interlibrary loan online, you will need to create an account with a username, password and email.
  • Once you have requested the item, the system will email you a confirmation. In your account settings, you will be able to view your requests, cancel requests that haven’t been filled yet or request to renew items if the lending library allows it.
  • Renewals must be requested before the due date of your item.

If you need assistance with requesting an ILL item, please call or visit the library.
