Placing Holds

Placing Holds

You can place a hold on an item using our online catalogue or by visiting one of our service desks. The maximum number of holds per library card is 50. Holds may be placed on all types of circulating materials, with the exception of Express items and some reading club materials.

Hold Notification by Email

If you have given the Library your email address, you will automatically get an email when your hold becomes available. Be sure to update the Library if your email address changes.

Signing up for Email Notification can be done by visiting our Circulation Desk and providing us with your email address.

Hold Notification by Phone

Our staff will phone you to let you know that your hold has become available.

Pausing Holds

Use the Pause Hold function on the online catalogue when you are not ready to pick up an item. A Paused Hold will continue to move up the list but it will not be delivered until it is activated. You cannot pause a hold after you have been notified that it is available for you.

Picking up Holds

All holds are shelved in the lobby according to last name. The holds slip will show the first four letters of your last name, plus the last three digits of your library card number.

Holds can only be checked out to the card that was used to place the hold.

Holds Shelf Expiry

Items will remain on the Holds Shelf for three days. Sundays are not counted when determining holds expiration.

If you missed picking up a Hold

Unfortunately, if you do not pick up your hold by the expiry date, there is no record kept of the hold you've missed. With email notifications, keep your emails until you have picked up your hold so that you can keep track of your holds.
